The Whale Defense Agency (WDA) is actively seeking dedicated individuals to join our Distributed Persistent Anti-Whaling Area Control Crew. Our requirements have evolved with our mission to protect whales and marine life from the threats of whaling. To be considered for a crew member position, applicants must meet the following qualifications:
– Be committed to the mission of the WDA.
– Hold citizenship in any country.
– Possess a master’s degree or equivalent experience in fields relevant to maritime conservation, including marine biology, oceanography, environmental science, maritime law, engineering, or related disciplines.
– Have a minimum of three years of relevant professional experience following degree completion, or equivalent experience in maritime operations and conservation efforts.
– Two years of doctoral program completion in a relevant field if interested in medical facilities on-board our future patrol vessels.
– Completion of a Doctor of Medicine or related medical degree with a focus on maritime or remote area operations.
In addition to academic and professional qualifications, crew members must demonstrate proficiency in leadership, teamwork, and effective communication skills. As part of the WDA’s mission, crew members will engage in innovative strategies to disrupt and deter whaling operations worldwide, protecting whale populations and their habitats. Our operations extend globally, with crews deployed to key maritime regions where whaling activities are prevalent. The selection process involves thorough review by the WDA’s Crew Selection Board, which assesses each candidate’s qualifications and commitment to our mission. Successful candidates will be invited for interviews where they will undergo further evaluation. Following initial interviews, a select group of candidates will be invited for additional assessments. From this group, new crew members will be chosen to undergo training.
During training, crew members will acquire essential skills for anti-whaling operations, including maritime navigation, advanced surveillance techniques, non-violent intervention strategies, and collaboration with international partners, as well as R&D on new ways to disrupt whaling. As part of the Next-Generation of maritime conservationists, crew members will pioneer new approaches to protect whales and marine ecosystems, including exploration and experimentation in areas previously inaccessible. With the WDA’s ambitious plans for the future, crew members may participate in missions to remote marine habitats and contribute to groundbreaking research in maritime conservation.
Join us in our relentless pursuit to safeguard whales and preserve the oceans for future generations.
