Our Focus on Japanese Whaling

Japan’s whaling activities, conducted under the guise of “scientific research” and more recently as “commercial whaling,” continue to pose a significant threat to whale populations. We are committed to exposing, confronting, and disrupting these operations with innovative strategies and advanced technology.

Despite a ruling by the International Court of Justice (ICJ) against Japan’s scientific whaling program, the country withdrew from the IWC to resume commercial whaling terrorism. This bold defiance of international norms underscores the urgent need for vigilance and action. Our team prioritizes efforts to combat Japan’s whaling industry by utilizing cutting-edge surveillance systems, high-speed patrol vessels like our APV, The Kangei Hunter, and drone technology to monitor and intervene.

We also focus on exposing the ecological, ethical, and legal violations of Japan’s whaling program through extensive intelligence gathering and media campaigns. Our work has helped bring global awareness to the cruelty and ecological destruction inherent in whaling. By disrupting hunts, tracking vessels like the Kangei Maru, and leveraging legal advocacy, we ensure that Japan’s actions do not go unchecked.

The WDA remains steadfast in its mission to ensure that Japan’s whaling industry becomes a relic of the past. With the support of our donors and advocates, we will continue to navigate uncharted waters, innovate anti-whaling strategies, and defend whales from extinction. We will focus on Japanese whaling with such precision that it will leave the whalers scrambling to adapt, understand, or counter WDA’s actions effectively.
