Anti-Whaling Mission

The Anti Whaling Mission of The Whale Defense Agency

Towards a Zero Kill Campaign: The Challenge of Ensuring No Whales Die

Despite the best intentions and efforts of numerous individuals and organizations aiming to halt whaling, achieving zero kill operations remains a formidable challenge. Many have embarked on this mission, such as Sea Shepherd (seen in the video on the left), driven by a deep commitment to conservation and the protection of marine life. However, the harsh realities of whaling operations, less-advance anti-whaling approaches, coupled with the complexities of international waters and legal frameworks, have made it difficult for most to realize their goals, as can be seen in the video from Sea Shepherd.

How We Defend Whales Compared To Existing NGO’s

The Whale Defense Agency (WDA) team consist of various teams, agents and digital campaigners, engineers, shipyard owners, and more all coming together for a common cause - to defeat whaling. We are the only agency in the world that can effectively say we stopped whaling during a campaign with a 100% zero kill achieved on our watch!

Overview of Our Rapid Response Anti-Whaling Mission | ZERO KILL OPERATIONS

The Whale Defense Agency stands apart as the only organization that has successfully executed zero whale kill campaigns to date. Our unique approach combines cutting-edge technology, strategic innovation, and unwavering dedication to the mission.

Founded by James Anderson, our agency will soon leverage the fastest surface ship, in development and currently working on funding to finish her design phase, and she will be capable of speeds over 60 knots, ensuring we can swiftly and effectively disrupt whaling activities.

We are not merely attempting to stop whaling; we are achieving it. Our aggressive, yet non-violent methods have proven that it is possible to protect whale populations and enforce conservation measures on a global scale. The results speak for themselves: wherever we innovate, navigate, and defend – the harpoons cease. The Whale Defense Agency is the leading NGO in modern anti-whaling approaches, demonstrating that with the right strategy and tools, zero kill anti-whaling campaigns are not just a goal, but a reality.

Despite millions and thousands of dollars having gone to anti-whaling operations through various global organizations, no other agency besides the Whale Defense Agency can say that it stopped active whaling during a pursuit. This is a feat no NGO today has achieved, except our agency.

Our Zero Kill Anti-Whaling Mission Captured On Video: A World’s First in History

The Urgent Need for Anti-Whaling

Whales face an existential threat from whaling operations worldwide. Despite global conservation efforts, whaling persists, endangering these creatures vital to our oceans’ health and the planet’s biodiversity. The reduced anti-whaling operations in recent years have left whalers free to hunt with minimal intervention. Sea Shepherd and other organizations have stepped back, creating a void in the defense of these giants of the sea. We’re here to stop that and to fill that void with capable tools to defend whales.

Our Distinctive Approach

The Kangei Maru, a Japanese whaling factory vessel that replaced the Nisshin Maru in 2024. The Whale Defense Agency just purchased a long-range drone to track the Kangei Maru’s illegal activities.

The Whale Defense Agency stands apart with our unique approach rooted in innovation, direct action, precision, and unwavering dedication. We are not just activists; we are a military-style anti-whaling organization focused exclusively on intervention.

Our mission is the development and deployment of new anti-whaling strategies and tools to halt whaling operations in their tracks. Unlike the Captain Paul Watson Foundation and many other established NGO’s, our sole focus is on anti-whaling, ensuring all our resources and efforts are dedicated to this singular cause.

One of our primary targets is the Kangei Maru, the latest Japanese whaling mothership, which recently concluded a hunting season off Japan. The Whale Defense Agency is committed to disrupting the operations of the Kangei Maru to the fullest extent. This vessel represents a significant threat to whale populations, and our strategies are specifically designed to counter its advanced capabilities.

Cutting-Edge Tools and Technology

Central to our mission is the development and deployment of cutting-edge tools and technology:

Advanced Vessels:

  • Our state-of-the-art ships, currently in development, will be equipped with the latest navigation, surveillance, and anti-whaling technology. These vessels will allow us to reach whaling hotspots swiftly and engage poachers effectively, extending our operational range far beyond that of existing anti-whaling organizations.

Advanced Tactics:

  • Our teams are trained in aggressive, non-violent methods to disrupt whaling activities. This includes ship-to-ship interventions, communication disruption, undersea operations, legal actions, and more. Our tactics are designed to be highly effective while minimizing harm.

Prop Fouling Innovations:

  • We are pioneering new prop fouling techniques, such as undersea barriers and prop foulers with parachutes on each end. These innovations can significantly increase drag on whaling ships, hindering their operations and conserving fuel.

Long-Range Interceptors:

  • One example of our innovation is the development of an interceptor capable of a 400% increase in range while conserving fuel, allowing for long-range engagement and extended missions in remote whaling hotspots.

Faroese Anti-Whaling Campaigns

The Whale Defense Agency is also committed to disrupting the Grindadráp, the traditional Faroese whale hunts. We are currently developing specialized barrier systems to deploy from RHIBs, including 12-foot tall, hydraulically deployed 8-foot expandable section beach barriers with curved front-facing walls and three layers of concertina wire on top. These barriers will cover specific beachheads and are made of lightweight, fireproof, hardened materials to withstand aggressive crowd actions.

Deploying these barriers by sea from our APV ensures a rapid, unnoticed setup. The APV’s formidable presence, high-powered water cannons, and prop fouling technologies will enhance the effectiveness of these barriers. Our prop fouling gun systems, capable of shooting over 400 meters, will disable grind drive boats before they reach the shore, disrupting the hunts without prior notice to the incoming vessels.

What Happens If Whaling Ends?

A common question from our supporters is: What will the agency do if whaling ends?

If the defeat of whaling occurs, the Whale Defense Agency will remain in existence as a required entity to provide a credible level of deterrence. Even if whaling ceases by Japan, the agency would still operate offshore to deter future actions and stand ready in the area of operations. Due to our APV’s 60-knot speed, we foresee that whaling will cease to exist when the vessel is deployed to engage whaling operators worldwide. The APV’s role will be incredibly disruptive to whaling in any region, including Japan, Norway, Iceland, and the Faroe Islands.
